DC Media Legends Tribute The Iconic Jim Vance
Last week, the broadcast industry lost one of its icons, Jim Vance. Vance was the face of WRC-TV, the NBC O&O in Washington, DC.
Having done three tours of duty in DC, I came to enjoy and trust Vance's work. He was a straight shooter. He told it like it was; including some of the personal battles he faced. At the end of the day, he was real and the audience connected with him.
Television is a very competitive business. We have the privilege of representing another DC legend; Tony Perkins. Most of you know who he is and probably saw him on Good Morning America. Tony is the face of the Fox O&O in DC, WTTG-TV. When news of Vance's passing came, the battlefield was paused and we got to see the personal side of a lot of people. Tony appeared on a third DC legend's radio show, Donnie Simpson, and talked candidly about the impact Jim Vance had on himself, DC, and the industry.
It's the humanistic side this industry needs to see more of.
